Midland is a city of about 40,000 people located near the middle of the lower peninsula of Michigan. It is the county seat of Midland County. It is about 120 miles northwest of Detroit and 20 miles west of Saginaw Bay. It is part of the Tri-Cities of Midland, Bay City and Saginaw and part of the Great Lake Bay Region. It is the home of Dow, MidMichigan Medical Center, Members First Credit Union, Mackinac Center for Public Policy, Snow Machines Inc, Scientific Anglers, Modern Metalcraft, Wysong Corporation, Gerace Construction, Omni Tech International, Dow Chemical Employees' Credit Union and many other companies and organizations.

In 2016, the American in Bloom Symposium awarded Midland a first place in the 30,000-50,000 population category for its beautification efforts.
